about

My friend Wayne Kline, of Rolling Stone Press, succumbed to cancer. I got the call saturday a.m. and paced around, finally reaching for guitar and writing this song. The next day was a memorial gathering at his studio and I did the song. That his son would be driving down from Asheville brought up that first line.

We did a 5-color litho together for his print club. He carried an M-60 in Vietnam, in an infantry squad. He was very nearly killed on outpost one night, head shot. He woke up in a hospital in the Philippines. His partner had fled after Wayne was hit, believing him dead. An NCO lead the squad back for him, saving his life.

lyrics

all along the blue ridge turkey buzzards fly
down among the foliage teeming there with life
so along the highway leading to the city
you have to turn sideways it really is that busy

i've been nothin then I awoke
goin back to nothin somethin I can't stop

2.

inching into history joining in events
being part of herstory we came then we went
at first it seemed it'd never end we'd always be this youth
and then we lost our early friend which shook us to the root

i've been nothin then I awoke
goin back to nothin somethin I can't stop
