In the interviews that Bill Moyers did with Joseph Campbell there was the story Campbell cites from the christian bible where Jesus is asked by one of his disciples, "Lord, when will the kingdom come?" Jesus replies, "Before this generation passeth." This of course has forced theologians to summon obscure jargon to explain away the obvious problem. But, as Campbell points out, in the Dead Sea Scrolls the answer is, "The kingdom is spread upon the face of the earth and we do not see it."

The point of course is that the religious text that so many take literally is actually metaphor persuading us that standing in the midst of reality, experiencing being, is what will bring us to "God" which is simply an awareness of the inter-connectedness of all, the ONEness of all. Out of that will flow, what Tolle calls, A New Earth.
