Eckhart Tolle suggests that the various religions are pointing at the same thing in their various stories. They often however get too attached to their particular myth, taking it literally and wanting to impose it on everyone else. What the rituals and trapping attempt to bring you to is the same as the chorus, Tolle's recommendation which doesn't require climbing mountains or suffering martyrdom. I attempt to peel away the irrelevant in religion with that repeated line, The kingdom of god is not a monarchy. I've been annoyed at the use of what I consider archaic language, ie, using the word lord… it riles the democrat in me who resists hierarchy and class privilege. Replace it with "boss" & it becomes clear what's going on.
