about

I was walking past a day care center one morning, women were dropping off the kids… the first line occurred to me. Then, looking ahead at the buildings of Emory University topping the trees, the second… and the rest followed… influenced in the refrain by Brian Eno i think. So the rest became me thinking about this life, this place, these happenings.

Getting the lyrics home where i could get at the music, i played around with some odd chords i'd worked with before but never in a song. All came together in that a-muse-ish way.

lyrics

The women are bringin the children in
some of them wishin they were thin again
nothing to be gained

over the tree tops and the building's roof
hazy horizon and the gilded proof
another day at birth

down in the holler high up on the ridge
we name our kids Chester we name our kids Midge
on the banks of the river on the flat of the land
even in the city even where we work our tan
we sense somethin comin somethin we don't understand
in the depth of the barrrio in the tower of the man

2. the sun don't burn nor shade freeze me
without this balance where might we be
somewheres else maybe here

ain't no way to travel to the outer reach
save to note interconnect
bonding all as ONE

down in the holler high up on the ridge
we name our kids Chester we name our kids Midge
on the banks of the river on the flat of the land
even in the city even where we work our tan
we sense somethin comin somethin we don't understand
in the depth of the barrrio in the tower of the man
