Down a blacktop road to Orwell's farm
tryin to persuade them to do no harm
clouds of pesticides always in the air
poisoning the valley and the live things there
hope they leave their shotgun pegged above the shelf
they're know to be impatient with persons like myself

they didn't reach the shotgun but somethin just as rough
that damnable attorney who really knows his stuff
he stood there without empathy and read us to the law
I would have preferred anger to what it is I saw
we backed away in conference we stood against the wall
a firing squad might have been an easier way to fall

the county is a dead zone ever since they came
they bought the politicians who smooth and grease their way
whatever you wanna call it ya know the wealthy rule

steppin up the stair to judge Hoffman's court
didn't have much hope for our cause of course
maneuvers in the court room tricksters at their art
we pleaded for the life but we didn't reach the heart
the judge didn't look said justice is blind
the creatures in the valley they thought that was unkind

thoughout our history the demons of hell
hypnotize the people loot integrity
deliver a scapegoat seduce selectively
that twisted oppressive ignoble occupation
lashes at a rising tide resents the competition
