about

In 1971 I took a small liner from the Canary Islands to Mexico, stopping in Caracas, Dutch Curacao, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic on the way. 18 days at sea & a helluva storm in the gulf. Willemstad enchanted me & so came this song, later in 1973.

lyrics

I went down to Dutch Willemstad oh
Carribean splashin on the shore
my boat leavin made me sad and low
people there were gentle like the ones I know

2.
they wore colors that were joyful
like the words they thought
did alot of nothin cause the sun was hot
fruit boats bobbin in the blue-green sea
seems peace for a moment in my memory

refrain:
the snow comes fallin on the ground
where I go walkin every mornin since I been home
the trees ain't got no leaves this winter
and I ain't got no reason

3.
I'm longin for those Carribean days
when things were simple in the mornin shade
and there was singin singin happily
seems peace for a moment in my memory
