about

Driving down a snow-slippery rural road out of western Wisconsin early one winter (1982) I got the idea to use the dismissive line, "seen one you've seen'em all" in that country tradition of irony and word-play. On the one hand it represents a cynical view incapable of enjoyment. On the other it references the fact that in essence, everything reduces to a mirror of everything else... every singularity is a holographic instance of the profound ONE. Aside from that to use the same phrase to mean two significantly different things makes for .... humor, right? And the rise or fall line: every minute is an opportunity to rise or fall, to see reality in its profound beauty or to succumb to ego.

lyrics

I don't know where I'm goin but I'm bound
and I don't know what I'm doin but I've found
every minute I've bumped into is a chance to rise or fall
seen one minute you've seen'em all

2.
I've been with my companions through the years
the reason some were lost was never clear
every friendship I've bumped into is a chance to rise or fall
seen one friendship you've seen'em all

3.
I've traveled the contours of this sphere
the places where I rested I hold dear
every country I've bumped into is a chance to rise or fall
seen one nation you've seen'em all
