I right away relocate to another part of town
me and the law don't fit like a glove
ain't much likin and there ain't no love
people you know got a strong desire
to push someone little right into the fire
makes'em feel bigger than they really are
as if there's not a light burnin big as a star

standin in the middle of the unexplained
might make a person stumble into any kind of game
you can play it on you or let somebody else
or tuck the whole thing in favor of wealth
out here on the outskirts I can understand the notion
down at the bottom is somethin mighty fearsome
and if that were lifted we'd have situation

several months ago when the river was low
we set off for the city in the afterglow
me and my neighbor through all kinds of weather

people you know got a tendency to act kind of unpredictably
makes ya feel uncertain till it all shakes out

hitchin on the highway with a thumb all out
a motor home pulled over and invited us up
back to where we started seemed about right
somethin pullin on me something I won't fight
the old home place despite all appearance
is bound to shake me with its disappearance
so why am I determined to be there again
