about

From my Songbook 1969-2009, Warrior 1974, got agitated about racism, how it rears its ignorant ugly head far too frequently and was (is) entrenched most deeply in the south but hardly exclusive there.... the Hatfields & the McCoys come to mind & repeat themselves all over the planet.

lyrics

I went down to Georgia I got a chance to see
every man the Klu Klux Klan ever strung from a tree
I listened to the poor dark fellas
standin in the coal black night
couldn't understand why the god damned man
wouldn't let them in the gate

2.
lived in little places on the outskirts
didn't have a where to go
couldn't get in cause the white man's sin
was standin in the road
along came a leader called Jackson warrior from the east
couldn't understand why a proud black man
would want to get in the gate

3.
led'em to a place called peaceful told'em they'd have to be
let self-sufficience rule our existence
& we'll be on our way
days of joy and sorrow came upon each one
but they never had to kiss a white man's fist
and they never had to bow to the ground
