about

At first writing the chorus was, "I've lived with a lady"... a more feminist perspective required a change... buying the idea that using the term girl for woman is part of infantilizing women as "boy" was used to infantalize and subjugate black men. "Lady" is a class word along with "Lord" in class subjugation. I am put off by undemocratic terms like "his holiness" or "M'Lord". This song tries to honor a relationship without groveling and it ruminates on being. I quite like what happened musically. I play these songs basically just as I wrote them, maybe tweaking a bit, sometimes adding bridges, beginnings, endings and coming up with some way to orchestrate them, find a better key for vocals.

lyrics

I can't tell too many things I've done
I can't brag up next to anyone
I can't raise an eyebrow in a crowd

chorus:
I've lived with a woman I've lived with a woman

2.
I've seen a lot of time
I've seen a bit of wine
I've been for years
I've been revered - chorus

3.
Thought about the prospects for the future
think about them most at dinner time
think about the day goin by - chorus
