about

Growing up involves losing some illusions. I like how the idea of what an open door is evolves across the three verses, from mere acceptance to a grander notion, metaphysical you could say. I once was in a wonderful position, on a hilltop after dark, assigning each of the first four phrases to 4 groups who would chant them when i pointed to them... it was a door opening experience.

lyrics

string of clouds moving thickly northeast
weather unfolding luminous peace

when I was knee-high people were so kind
didn't seem like bigots didn't know no narrow minds
somethin seemed to happen further down the road
the door was never open when i went and got me old

2.
string of clouds moving thickly northeast
weather unfolding luminous peace

went a fur piece before i found my way
in that fairy tale town San Francisco Bay
somethin seems to happen further down the road
the door was always open when i went and got me old

3.
string of clouds moving thickly northeast
weather unfolding luminous peace

from an age lookin back we would seem to be
subject to the nets of chance fishes in the sea
somethin seems to happen further down the road
the door is always open even if you go and get you old

string of clouds moving thickly northeast
weather unfolding luminous peace luminous peace
