about

In 1972 radical critique was in the air and some of it fell on this song which touches on some of the issues, questioning authority, before moving on to lament my late-start, limited musical talent. Wasn't yet a vegetarian but could feel it coming. Before putting these songs in the songbook they were edited some, cutting out sexist language and other wince-inducing lines but mostly they're as-written.

lyrics

I'm a bit of a radical I don't wear drawers
keep my body precious from historical war
I don't eat no animals, couldn't tell you why
Mortimer tells me I will be here 'till I die

2.
got a lot of memories crowdin my mind
got a lot of theories corruptin my time
need a little hope that'll help me go
'till I can find a method turnin grits to gold

3.
system is the way everybody goes any other way
somethin I don't know
hair's hangin low just the way it do
that's the way we grow it at the 60s school

4.
I ain't had too many people ever ask me
if I'd be a singer at their jamboree
maybe they know that I don't know how
to sing or dance stomp or bash I can't even howl

5.
I been playin guitar for a bunch of years
I been learnin yoddlin for a week
I don't want no teacher gonna learn myself
that's how you can tell me from everybody else
