about

Around the time of this song I had been making ten day yearly trips to NYC, checking out the galleries and museums, the paintings. So that probably accounts for the city/capitalist reference, the earthly... the rest is self-reflection, expression of astonishment that we are conscious, that this intricate, complex, wondrous world exists... frightening when you over-identify with the ephemeral but comfort to be had in recognizing the "divine", meaning, not the overlord "boss" but the interconnection of all things, the unity and identifying with the source out of which the passing illusion emerges and recedes... the eternal. Big words.

lyrics

I never was afraid 'till today I never was amazed 'till today
I never did know the world was so
round and wide and old round and wide and old

2.

the weary defeated are divine the powerful too are divine
we both of us meet on Manhattan streets
capitalist capital of the world capitalist capital of the world

3.

a creature bends over my sleep exhaling the salt of the deep
standing at the foot of a mass that I took
for the mountain of mystery the mountain of memory

4.

the first hour is here the first sound to hear
alone in the night awaiting a light
bursting across our sky bursting across our eye

bursting across our eye bursting across our sky
