about

Writing this song I was influenced by and envious of Barry Manilow, not for his songs so much as his high-rise Manhattan digs and the freedom his success insured. I was delivering newspapers at god-awful hours, squeaking by but that life in Manhattan sure looked good along with the freed schedule success would, maybe, offer. Never the less, in 1978, I used what time I had for creative stuff - painting, political cartoons and, on an old piano, songwriting. The song itself is one of those love songs that fade out of my repertoire quite soon after this batch but it was an attempt to work within that tradition and it did come out of a relationship that, though troubled, involved the L word.

lyrics

I sense you moving in your sleep
what dreams are yours tonight I ask
musing I anticipate your lie
you are mischievious
you who own me

chorus:
hopelessly I love you incurably I love you

2.
I know you even when you're gone
here now the thought of you's enough
calming me so quiet suddenly
you are mysterious you who breath me - chorus

3.
summer brown dress lain gently on the chair
straw hat woman you've brought the morning here
waking me touching sparingly you are my intoxicant
you who lie with me - chorus
