about

Chomsky did a book in 1993, Year 501: The conquest Continues where he portrays the European invasion of the Americas as flowing out of a world view that continues to wreak havoc today. The book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was an eye-opener for me and I suppose this song came out of that reading... some years later. I like to ask, when i'm laying out a twenty dollar bill, "Why would they put a terrorist's picture on this?" Ol' Hickory was the "decider" for the Trail of Tears.

lyrics

Not all of us were gentle when the blue coats came
not all of them were killers the effect was the same
in the past true it was when the blue coats came
bringing devastation continuous today

chorus:
who do you call the savage who laid the long trail of tears?

2.
whirling dervish death when the bluecoats came
harvesting the children the women and men
massacre without warning when the bluecoats came
martyr red early mornin like buffalo from the train - chorus

refrain:

winter and spring mountain stream
birch bark boat on the great lake
summer and fall adobe wall
prairie wind scented my way

3.
the land that we walked when the bluecoats came
no one of us could sell what was not in our name
spinning in the firmament when the bluecoats came
spiritual spiraling ancient star plan - chorus
