about

A friend recommended the biblical Ecclesiastes after I had thrown out all the religious mumbo jumbo of my upbringing, which showed me that it isn't ALL silly... the existentialism expressed in the book fit quite well with how I was seeing things then without "faith". Couldn't figure out how it ever got in. Probably its denunciation of women, its cozying up to "god" and its quite beautiful writing is what did it. On some level the Jesus story resonates with people, ranging from the literalists with low tolerance to ambiguity to those who see in the New Testament a story of consciousness, a plea for an awakening that, if ignored, will seal our fate.

lyrics

In this room, one man cares
In this city, how many there?
In this nation, how many feel
the pain of nails? (3x)

2.
little twigs sprout up out of the dirt
great trees push up out of the earth
pathetically few limbs end on the hill
a painful cross (3x)

3.
metal hand-made spear tips on the end of shafts
in the hands of soldiers skilled at their craft
indifferent standing about the base
of a wooden cross (3x)

4.
the hill is blackened against an angry sky
the man is limply staring from broken eyes
the body's covered with hungry flies

and the world is saved (3x)
